JORDAN RAKEI ROOFTOP

In the vein of alt-soul artists like Tom Misch and Zak Abel, a new voice is rising up the ranks and that belongs to Jordan Rakei, who released his debut Cloak LP back in June this year . A standout album track has to be “Rooftop”, as it places the limelight firmly on the New Zealander’s golden voice while the self-produced backdrop respectively shimmers away without detracting from his love-sick croons. The reason our attention has come back to Jordan Rakei months after the initial album airing is down to the Tom Ewbank-directed video for the track. In Rakei’s own words, “The video is a story of a couple that went through love, but you’ll realises the story is in reverse, with the focus on him.” Like the song itself, the visual narrative portrays a fresh perspective on this universally-discussed and experienced emotion. -HT
